Designed by American company IPG Photonics and developed by the IvorySoft team, this handy app lets employees control welding gear right from their phones — making precision work easier than ever.

About the project
LightWELD simplifies laser welding with the innovative LightWELD Cobot System. Compatible with any LightWELD laser, this system automates repetitive welding tasks and optimizes low-volume fabrication to boost the workshop’s productivity. To make controlling the process even smoother, our team developed a mobile app.
Story
Scope of work
Our mission with the LightWELD project was to develop a user-friendly mobile app that enhances the connectivity and control of laser welding machines. From the get-go, our team was tasked with creating an architecture that would support real-time interactions and ensure robust functionality tailored to industrial settings.

Task 1
Develop the app, integrate secure login capabilities with AWS Cognito, and build the core functionality based on UI designs.
Task 2
Set up a test environment using AWS IoT for data exchange and transition to the client’s live AWS IoT system, ensuring smooth connectivity and data handling.
Task 3
Conduct comprehensive app testing, optimize the user experience, and establish CI/CD pipelines for efficient deployment to Apple Store Connect.

Streamlined machine communication
To enable connectivity and control over the welding machines, we integrated AWS IoT with the app, using SparkPlugB for efficient message formatting and encoding. With this setup, we ensured that data communication between the app and the welding machines was smooth and met the specific operational requirements of the welding equipment.
Real-time welding oversight
We implemented features that allow for the real-time adjustment of welding parameters and monitoring of the entire welding process. This includes live feedback on temperature, voltage, and current, plus alerts for any anomalies, keeping everything running safely.

Intuitive touch control interface
To develop a user-friendly and intuitive interface, we utilized Expo Web-View. This tool helped us create a responsive and accessible UI, enabling welders to interact with the app through touch controls and customize their dashboard to monitor the metrics they care about most.
Secure and safe operation
We’ve set up password protection and user authentication through AWS Cognito, so only the right employees can get in and make adjustments. More so, safety interlocks and alerts keep users informed about any risky changes, like unexpected temperature rises or electrical issues, ensuring everyone stays safe while working.
